Many people will want to go to nature for the holidays, especially when the weather finally improves. It’s a great way to relax, clear your head, and recharge. However, do not forget that real camping, even for a couple of days, has little in common with pictures from Instagram. We tell you what you need to know for those who go on their first trip in their lives.

For short trips (and it is recommended to start with such ones), the simplest self-folding tents are suitable. It is important that an awning is attached to the tent, which will additionally protect against rain and wind. It is also worth choosing a tent based on a sleeping place of 50-60 centimeters per person, this width will be enough for a comfortable sleep. It’s cool if the tent is with a vestibule – it’s convenient to store things there without fear that they will get wet from dew or rain.

If you are completely new to camping, practice putting up a tent at home, and do it after dark when you arrive. Modern tents are usually very easy to operate, but it doesn’t hurt to make sure. Also, you cant take tarps with you.

An awning is also a thing needed on a hike. This is a piece of waterproof and windproof material that is usually stretched over a place where everyone gathers together (for example, over a fire), so that if it rains, they do not scatter to their tents, but sit together romantically and sing songs with a guitar. If there is no special awning, any piece of tarpaulin will do, preferably at least 3 * 3 meters, which is stretched between nearby trees.

When choosing a sleeping bag, you should be guided by the temperature regime, the labels always indicate what kind of weather they are suitable for. You need to focus, of course, on the night temperature. In addition to a sleeping bag, a foam mat will come in handy, since the earth is quite cold at night even in summer, and even more so in spring.

A yoga mat will not work, but if space in a backpack (or trunk) allows, an air mattress would be a good option, you won’t freeze on it either, and you will sleep softer than on a rug. Hiking rugs should be chosen as thick and dense: the higher the R-value (thermal resistance of the thermal insulation material), the better.

You can buy a special travel pillow, you can use an inflatable one for an airplane (but first check – this option is not convenient for everyone), or put some clothes in a sleeping bag and use it as a pillow.

Eating on a hike is a special ritual. Buckwheat with stew cooked on fire cannot be compared in impressions with any restaurant. You will have to cook on a fire or on a gas burner. In any case, the most convenient products for a hike are cereals (buckwheat, rice, oatmeal, and further to taste), pasta, and canned food (stewed meat, tuna in jars, etc.). It is important not to forget salt and sugar, as well as spices if there are lovers.

Pancake mix goes well on hikes – the dough for pancakes is already mixed in a bottle. A pancake pan weighs almost nothing, and the pleasure of pancakes on fire is worth a million, especially if with condensed milk!

Marinated barbecue meat, sausages, fresh vegetables, and other perishable foods are best consumed on the first evening, and it is more convenient to carry drinks in plastic than in glass.

What products will definitely not be superfluous: dried fruits, nuts, dried vegetables, crispbread (instead of bread), crackers, protein bars. It sounds like a whim, but you should also take care of the treats: on the second day at most, you will want chocolate, chips, sweets, gummy bears, or something else that is not so necessary, but you really like it. Stock up on this at least a little, and the pleasure of the trip will increase significantly.

It is better to take dishes with you with a special camping one, made of stainless steel or other durable, but lightweight materials. You can easily do without a fork, but hardly without a bowl, spoon, knife, and opener. You will have to bring drinking water with you or find out in advance where you can get it on the spot (well, spring, shop, etc.). A glass mug for drinks is not the most convenient thing, it is much more convenient to use a thermal mug.

If there is a body of water nearby, you will have to wash the dishes there, so buy a biodegradable detergent so you don’t pollute the environment.

On a hike, it is worth taking something that takes up little space, is easy to wash, and dries quickly. It will be cold and disgusting in a wet cotton T-shirt, a running T-shirt of any sports brand made of modern quick-drying materials is much more comfortable. Sports leggings or pants are many times better than jeans, which take up a lot of space and dry for a long time.

The same goes for sweaters: for warmth, a fleece sweatshirt is more suitable than a knitted sweater – it weighs almost nothing and takes up little space, and a windproof jacket with a hood is also useful.

You need at least two pairs of shoes in case one gets wet. It is best if these are waterproof Gore-tex sneakers or rubber boots, as well as lightweight sneakers or slates. Sports socks and underwear is best seamless and with a margin, so as not to strain and wash once again.

The weather, most likely, will not allow you to swim, but you can heat the water in a pot and arrange a shower from a bottle. You can buy a field shower or a camping shower in a tourist shop, but this option is only suitable for those traveling by car – it is heavy and uncomfortable to carry all this on yourself.

In an emergency, you can always take a few packs of wet wipes with you, it has been empirically found that wipes for babies do the best job. If you suddenly forgot your toothpaste, a piece of coal from a fire will do. Sounds and looks weird, but it really works!

Of course, this is the bare minimum. Each participant of the trip is well aware of their own characteristics and chronic illnesses and should not forget to take care of it on their own.

1. Decorative cosmetics. Honestly, it’s not needed at all.

2. Camping furniture: armchairs, a hammock, etc. Very nice and cool for Instagram photos, but, as a rule, everyone is too lazy to assemble this.

3. Home pillows and blankets – take up a lot of space, and the benefits are doubtful.

4. Too many photos and video gadgets. Yes, you will want to shoot a lot, but a regular camera or even a phone is enough.

6. Terry towel. The thing is cozy but takes up a lot of space, it is better to replace it with a microfiber towel.
