Going camping can be a primitive experience for some.

What if you could get back to nature in luxury?

Glamping, or glamorous camping, has taken off in recent years. Thanks to two Topekans, the service has made its way to the capital city.

Ashlee Spring and Sara Collins launched From the Top Glamping after spending time last year camping.

The experience bonded the two friends, Spring said.

Spring and Collins, who have work experience in event planning, decided they wanted to help others celebrate special occasions.

The friends purchased a 16-foot canvas bell tent after seeing the idea on social media.

"We were like, 'We camp and we know how to design events,'" Spring said. "'We can totally do this.'"

From the Top Glamping offers five packages, including romance, movie night, family night, girls night and bachelorette party. It also offers a customizable option.

Each package comes with the bell tent, fully decorated with one queen-sized mattress, heater or air-conditioning unit, drink of choice and a custom sign.

The packages come with extra amenities. The girls' night package can include up to six twin mattresses, themed party decor, photo props, matching cups and up to six blankets.

The family night package includes a queen mattress and two air mattresses, board and card games, snacks, drinks, cushioned loungers and a s'mores kit.

Spring said people can schedule a date and specify the occasion. 

"We come in, and we set up everything in their backyard," Spring said. "We set up between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the afternoon, so when they get off work or get home from school it's all set up for them."

Guests can stay in the tent overnight at their home, so they can use their own bathroom and kitchen.

"Then we come down the next day and tear it down," Spring said. "So no work for them."

The business has also partnered with Schenkel Farm, located in Meriden. Customers can request to have the tent set up there for the night.

Reservations can be made at fromthetopglamping.com. Spring said September and October are booking up fast.

"It seems to be a lot of anniversaries — that's been our biggest one," Spring said. "And followed behind that is either girls' nights or birthday parties."

Spring said the business only has one bell tent but plans to purchase another one along with offer indoor camping experiences this winter.

From the Top Glamping is an experience anyone can enjoy.

Spring said the business doesn't have a target audience but is trying to reach people who are looking to celebrate a special occasion in a unique way within the comfort of their own home.

"Our goal is to give people another reason to celebrate, to have a unique experience within Topeka and without having to drive out of town or plan a big weekend," Spring said. "We offer the experience in town at their house."

For those who might not be comfortable camping outdoors, glamping is a great alternative.

"They can still lay under the stars and cook s'mores and have the camping experience with the comfort of air conditioning and heat and their own bathroom," Spring said.
