MANOUSHAGIAN SWORN IN AS JUDGE — Judge Dana Davis Manoushagian was sworn in as the Wise County Court-At- Law No. 2 judge Thursday in Bridgeport. Manoushagian was appointed to the position in May following the announcement of Judge Stephen Wren’s retirement. The swearing-in ceremony represented Manoushagian’s impact, starting from her upbringing in Uvalde, to her home in Wise County. She said her goal is to continue the legacy left by Wren, who has served as Wise County Court-At-Law No. 2 since its inception in 2011. WEEK 2 FOOTBALL — Decatur (1-0) continues searching for its first win of the season, as the Eagles host 5A Division II No. 6 Wichita Falls Rider 7 tonight at Eagle Stadium. Bridgeport (0-1) hosts its home opener against Bowie at 7:30 p.m. Boyd (1-0) is at Jacksboro, while Paradise (1-0) travels to face 2A II No. 3 Muenster. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Alvord (0-1) will try for its first win at Valley View 7:30 p.m. at Valley View’s John Kassen Stadium. Chico (0-1) opens Dragon Field against Trenton at 7:30 p.m. Northwest (1-0) turns on the home lights against McKinney North at 7 p.m. VCA (0-1) hosts Bethesda Christian Academy 7 p.m. at Patriot Field. RAIN CHANCES REMAIN — The weekend forecast includes 40 percent chances of rain today and Saturday and 30 percent on Sunday and Monday with highs each day in the upper 80s and lows around 70. Yesterday’s rainfall total included 0.3 of an inch in Greenwood.

FRIDAY VOLLEYBALL — Decatur (11-17) returns home to host Lindsay tonight at 6 p.m. Paradise (17-10) takes on Bridgeport (8-15) for a Wise County matchup at 4:30 p.m. at Paradise High School. Alvord (8-15) travels to Whitesboro, while Chico (11-6) is on the road at Valley View. Both matches are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Northwest (22-8) hosts Lamar at 6 p.m.

HOLIDAY CLOSINGS — Wise County Public Works and the Decatur dumpsite will be closed Monday for the Labor Day holiday. Boyd and Cottondale dumpsites will close the next business day on Wednesday. Wise County dumpsite information can be found at wisecountytx.gov.

PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP — The Parkinson’s Support Group will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at Wise Christian Counseling in the Prada Shops, 1650 S. FM 51, Ste. 400. The meeting will feature a guest speaker. Call Pam Hudson, 940-389-0642.

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP — If you care for, or care about, someone with Alzheimer’s, the Wise Alzheimer’s Support Group will have a virtual meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday. Learn from others and share your experiences. For information on how to participate in the meeting call Richard, 940-255-0244.

CRUISE NIGHT — Cruise Night on the Courthouse Square returns 4-8 p.m. Saturday to downtown Decatur. Registration is 4-6 p.m., $15 per vehicle. Awards in 20 classes. Streets will be closed for pedestrian traffic. Call 940-399-9558.

LABOR DAY SAND CASTLE COMPETITION — Wise County Park in Chico will host a sand castle competition, with child and adult builders invited to come up with the best sand-based creations. Prizes have been donated for the competition and they include $100, two nights camping for one RV or two tents, as well as door prizes that will be given out from a drawing. The competition is free, and an awning will be set up to register contestants at the sandbar. Building can begin as early as 6 a.m. (the registration area will be set up later than 6 a.m.), and judging begins at 3 p.m.

DECATUR MOBILE FOOD PANTRY — Decatur Cares Mobile Food Pantry is 8-9 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Decatur parking lot. The pantry will use a drive-thru setup. All participants will remain in their cars at all times. You will be directed by volunteers where to pull your car. Volunteers will load the box of food.

COMMUNITY BREAKFAST — Greenwood Masonic Lodge 779 will hold a free community breakfast 7-9 a.m. Saturday at the Mason’s Lodge in Greenwood. Donations will be accepted.

GOVERNMENT OFFICES CLOSED MONDAY — Most government offices will be closed Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

FUNERALS — Memorial service for Marilyn Featherstone, 90, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

MEMORIAL service for Don Ross, 68, of Alvord will be held at a later date. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Jean Lowrey McKeever, 80, of Chico is 11 a.m. Monday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery No. 3 in Chico. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

SERVICES for Marie Love, 93, and Eva Fugate, 64, both of Bridgeport are pending at Hawkins-Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Edward Lee Ford, 72, of Gibtown is 11 a.m. Saturday at Hilltop Family Church in Springtown with burial at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Goshen Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the church. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

NO SERVICE is scheduled for Jimmey Dean Webb, 54, of Azle. Hawkins-Boyd is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Hazel Pitts, 86, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Eastside Cemetery in Bridgeport. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

NO SERVICE is scheduled for Patrice Ince, 63, of Bridgeport. Hudson & Torres is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL for Donna Keen, 83, of Boyd is 10:30 a.m. today at Pleasant Grove Cowboy Church in Decatur.
