For eight years now, Dearing House has been working with teams of cooks to prepare food for the Fish Fry for Small Fry event. Teams offer a variety of food (prepared on site) to lure the votes of the guests for People’s Choice Awards. Prizes are award for best fish, meat, side, and dessert.

The event will be hosted at Standing Bear Park and is designed to be a family event with plenty of space for children to play with activities provided by Free Will Baptist Church. Patchouli Orchestra will provide live music, and free face painting is available also. It takes hundreds of volunteers to make this event a success.

The first Fish Fry for the Small Fry was the idea of Melody Knight at Unwined and held in the parking lot on Cleveland to create community awareness for Dearing House in June of 2014 with six teams and 100 guests that year.

After two years, the popularity of the event required a larger space, and the event was re-located to the shady grounds at Standing Bear Park in 2016 and this year they celebrate the sixth event at that location which provides abundant parking, shade trees, and space for the teams to prepare and serve a great feast for kids and families to enjoy.

“The focus of the Fish Fry for the Small Fry is to be an event that reflects the mission of Dearing House to always put the needs of children first and support healthy families… hence the free kids meals and free activities for family entertainment,” reports Maggi Hutchason, Executive Director of Dearing House.

The Fish Fry for the Small Fry serves many purposes, amongst those is to increase public awareness of the vital services of Dearing House Child Advocacy Center to abused children, and generates significant income that allows those services to be available at no cost to families.

Sponsorships are available at $150 which includes two free tickets. Supporters can pay $25 to “support the tents” and put their name on one of the tent posts.

The 8th Annual Fish Fry for Small Fry will be held on June 17 at 6 pm and will serve until the food it gone. Tasting kits are $10 with children under 10 free with adults.
