Viewers were stunned when a truck transporting a bale of hay went through a Wendy's drive-thru but was unable to comfortably clear the awning.

The video was shared by Reddit user u/LilLush to the forum "Idiots in Cars" where it amassed more than 21,000 votes as viewers discussed potential worst-case scenarios.

According to QuikServ, a company that designs transaction windows, the maximum height clearance for a drive-thru lane is typically nine feet, but it may differ in various locations.

The width of the lane may depend on the size of the vehicles that come through, but it is commonly 10 feet wide.

Another factor that restaurants must consider when planning a drive-thru is the turning radius around the building. Tighter turns may require a wider lane.

As the truck driver pulled up to the drive-thru window, the bale of hay forced the awning upward. The driver continued to drive forward and once it drove past the window, the awning came down.

Another car immediately pulled up under the awning after the truck peeled off before the video concluded.

"Saw this coming for about 5 mins.," the title of u/LilLush's post read. "Thought it'd end worse."

He wrote to Newsweek that the drive-thru was busy, but did not hear a loud noise when the awning went back down.

u/LilLush said that he saw something similar occur when he worked at another fast-food restaurant. He also noted that a commenter said these awnings can withstand something like this happening.

"There's no real cause for alarm," he said.

Although the video did not end in disaster, many viewers voiced their opinion about the clip.

"Imagine it fell on the next car," a viewer wrote.

"I was more imagining if that hay was really dry and those sparks caught," commented another.

One commenter recalled an experience they had while working at a fast-food restaurant. They explained that a driver was towing a boat and attempted to go through the drive-thru.

"He ended up shutting down our [drive-thru] for most of the day, and had the audacity to act like it was our fault, even though he was told he wouldn't fit through the [drive-thru], and to come inside instead," they wrote.

"[I don't know] if he's the bigger idiot, or the guy who saw that happen and decided to put his car directly underneath the awning," a viewer commented.

Another viewer suggested they had "zero awareness."

"Can't believe he did that and just baled," a Redditor joked, offering a pun.

Some commenters asked u/LilLush why they did not try to warn either of the drivers.

He said that he's "not a very nice looking dude," and suggested that it may not have been helpful to approach either of the drivers.

"I've found that minding my business leads to less conflict than attempting to help people here," he said.

Other videos featuring odd moments on the road have gone viral.

One TikTok video, for example, featured a woman's neighbor as they maneuvered out of their garage after parking inside sideways.

A school bus was caught on video driving through an active construction site through wet concrete. Another viral clip showed the moment that a driver crashed into a parked car and quickly drove away.
